My new found love

This could easily turn out to be a love letter to Carol Twombly, but im not sure if my girlfriend would approve, so therefore this is about my new found love Nueva Std Condensed designed by Carol in 1994.

It’s not often I go Bananas over typefaces, especially ones that have been staring at me for years. The Search of the ultimate typeface is a never ending journey, in my case It has been a struggle to find 10 favourites - the top set I can lean on in difficult times.

This is mainly because im looking for certain qualities in a typeface - versatility, readability, weight, flow, and many more, but above all it’s the combination, the x factor, that makes finding a special typeface so hard

I’ve always been fascinated by hand drawn typefaces that seem to have a life of their own, so finding Nueva Std has given me a tingling sensation, and reading a description of Nueva really did feel like i was reading a matchmaking advert written especially for me:

“Nueva came into its own with a contemporary kinetic lowercase with its own capitals to match. Nueva has very high stroke contrast, with round, bouncy counterforms and stroke shapes, particularly in the wider instances. The low connecting joins of the arches of many lowercase letters are characteristic of some calligraphic designs, and this, combined with rounded bowls and tapering stems, makes Nueva unique among roman typefaces. The accompanying italic is a true italic design. Nueva´s two axes provide a large range of possible weight and width variations that can be used in display work (16 point and larger). Nueva is extremely versatile and can take on a workload that ranges from fine book titles to billboards.”

Love at second sight I think. Thanks Carol for this amazing typeface.
